Ruby Scott is an 11-year-old girl. She is plain and awkward, with dark hair and eyebrows that seem to meet in the middle. But there is something special about Ruby - something even she does not know at first - she is the descendant of another Ruby, who was the child of King Arthur and Queen Guinevere, hidden away and adopted out because she was not a boy.

Ruby was destined to be the heroine of the Starlit Ones, a group of sentient jewels who were present at the beginning of the Earth. They agreed to separate, or the Earth would explode.

However, the evil Micteca, Aztec Queen of the Underworld, seeks to bring the Starlit Ones together and destroy the planet, and only Ruby Scott can stop her.
